Otoplasty / Ear correction
Cosmetic surgery of the head and neck
External ear (auricle) correction is a surgical procedure performed to make the auricles adhere to the head or to reduce their size. As the auricle reaches 85% of its size by age 3, and is fully grown by age 5, corrections are recommended to be done between the ages of 5 and 6, before starting school, although they may also be performed in adults. Otoplasty is commonly performed under local anesthesia, and since the scar is behind the auricle, it is hardly noticeable. The recovery period usually takes 1 week, during which a bandage is worn around the head.
